Instructions for authors

The journal Mediamatics and Cultural Heritage – Review of New Media and Cultural Heritage accepts for consideration only original and previously unpublished scientific contributions that are not simultaneously submitted to another journal or publishing house.

Mainly original scientific studies, review articles, methodological contributions, case studies and professional discussion contributions are accepted for publication.
All contributions must thematically correspond to the focus of the journal as stated in the section “Thematic Areas”.
Each manuscript is subject to a double-blind peer review, in which it is assessed by at least two independent reviewers.
The editorial board reserves the right to reject a manuscript that does not meet the professional, ethical or formal requirements of the journal.

General information

Submitted contributions must not have been previously published or simultaneously submitted for assessment in another journal or publishing house.
The authors are responsible for ensuring that the research presented in the article was conducted in accordance with ethical principles and applicable legal regulations of the country in which it was conducted.
Manuscripts must be prepared in accordance with the current journal template published on the website.
Authors are responsible for the linguistic, grammatical and stylistic level of the submitted text. The editorial board reserves the right to return or reject manuscripts that do not meet the required linguistic level.
All sources used must be properly cited in accordance with the journal’s citation rules.
Contributions must thematically correspond to the focus of the journal and fall into one of the thematic areas listed on the website.
Original scientific and professional articles presenting the results of their own research are primarily accepted for publication.
Each manuscript is subject to a double-blind peer review by at least two independent reviewers.
After the review process has been successfully completed and the editorial team’s comments have been incorporated, the final version of the article is sent to the author for approval before publication.
In order to ensure an efficient review process, an author may have a maximum of two active manuscripts in review at one time.

General Manuscript Format

Manuscripts are accepted exclusively in Microsoft Word format (*.doc or *.docx).
The text of the article must be prepared in A4 format, Times New Roman font size 12 points, with single line spacing.
The title of the article is given in Times New Roman font size 14 points, bold.
Document formatting should be limited to the necessary minimum.
The abstract must not exceed 15 lines.
The article must contain 6 to 7 keywords in Slovak, Czech, or English.
Abbreviations must be explained when they first appear in the text.
Each author must provide their contact details and a brief professional description in the range of 3 to 6 lines.
The recommended length of the article is a maximum of 10 pages, including figures, tables, appendices and a list of references.

Equations, Mathematical Notations, and Number Formats

Mathematical symbols and equations must be created using the editable tools of Microsoft Word.
Equations must not be inserted as images.
Mathematical notations should follow standard scientific formatting rules.

Pictures and tables

All images, graphs, diagrams and tables must be consecutively numbered, labeled with a title or description and cited in the text.
It is recommended to provide graphic materials in JPG, PNG, TIFF or vector formats.
The recommended minimum resolution of images is 300 dpi.
Tables must be inserted in an editable form and must not be part of the images.
The author is responsible for obtaining all necessary rights and licenses for the use of images, photographs and other graphic materials.
When using third-party materials, the author is obliged to submit the relevant license or consent of the copyright holder upon request of the editorial office.

Citations and Bibliographic References

All borrowed information, data, images or ideas must be properly cited.
All manuscripts are checked with tools to verify the originality of the text before publication.
Bibliographic references must be processed according to the ISO 690:2021 standard.
The journal prefers the Harvard citation system (name-date system).
All authors of cited sources must be listed in the list of references.
Authors should maintain an appropriate level of self-citations and journal citations.

Review process timeline

The average time from manuscript submission to first editorial decision is approximately 6 to 8 weeks.
The average time from manuscript submission to publication is approximately 12 to 20 weeks, depending on the review process, the extent of required edits, and the journal’s publication schedule.
